GameSpot has put up a recent preview of The Sims Online. "...as if The Sims [wasn't already] popular enough ... the end result is (or will be) The Sims Online. The Sims Online is as self-explanatory as game titles get--it's The Sims, only online." GameSpot has recently got their hands on an early copy of The Sims: Vacation and have managed to get a nice preview of the game out. The preview talks about many of the new features that will be added to the game, and included are some nice new screenshots. To check out the preview click here.

There isn't much for SimDay this week, other then the re-release of the Hot Date patch. The new patch fixes many problems that were occouring in the expansion pack, along with fixing any problems that occoured in the first patch. This week there is also news of a new program coming shortly, that will enable you to create your own perfect date. Next week we should also see the results for the I'm Hot, I'm Not Skin contest and possible the new Hot Date exchange. For SimDay this week, Maxis have announced a new contest. The I'm Hot, I'm Not gives you the chance to win US$250. Here is what you have to do for the contest: I'm Hot - Male and Female - Submit the date of your dreams! No need for words here, they should have the looks that kill! I'm Not - Male and Female - Submit the worst date you can imagine! Maybe they don't dress well, maybe they are just mean, but your skin should show us why this date is NOT HOT! The contest ends February 13th, 2002 and details can be found here. Also of note this week, is a game on Pogo.com called The Sims Virtual Date. You can play this game here.

The Sims: Hot Date still retains the top spot for the week of January 13 to January 19, 2002. The Sims still holds the #3 spot while The Sims: Livin' Large moves up a place to #7. Again there is an absence of The Sims: House Party. Hot Date Patch Buggy

We've been notified that the Hot Date Patch isn't everything that it was set out to be. Maxis has reported than many users are reporting problems with this patch, most likely to do with old downloads. They are currently working on a solution and will let you know if anything is solved in a few days.

The latest NPD INTELECT sale data is out for Janurary 6th - 12th 2002. Intresting to note is that the first 5 places remain exactly the same, while The Sims: Livin' Large has fallen 1 place to #8, and The Sims: House Party is off this weeks chart all together. This is how the chart ended out: The Sims: Hot Date Expansion Pack Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone The Sims MP Roller Coaster Tycoon Return To Castle Wolfenstein MS Zoo Tycoon Empier Earth The Sims: Livin Large Expansion Pack Madden NFL 2002 MP Civilization 3 It will be intresting to see if The Sims: House Party can make it back into the charts. Also in the next two weeks we should see if SimGolf makes the chart or not.

Hot Date Patch Released

Maxis has just announced a patch for Hot Date that will fix the following problems: 1. Bay Window will now appear in the game. 2. The Old Prude will be seen on all the lots. 3. Cuddling was having problems in the booth and both couches. They would get stuck. This has been fixed. 4. In the booth, your date could get stuck in dining and would never move. You can now cancel out of dining if this happens, and there is no longer a permanent game hang. 5. Items and Actions were dropping out of the Sims Que, this has been fixed. 6. There were a few clothing rack random crashes, these have been fixed! 8. Interactions will be available on Townies Downtown 9. All bathrooms will have actions Downtown We were not told what #7 was. You should be able to download this patch on TheSims.com.

The Sims Knowledge Database is full of helpful articles and strategies that will make The Sims even more enjoyable. NPD INTELECT's stats for the week of December 23 to December 29, 2001 show The Sims products selling strongly. Hot Date has taken out the #1 spot, with The Sims at #3. House Party and Livin' Large come in at 6 and 7 respectivly. Of note is Roller Coaster Tycoon, which was released back in 1999, and it is still selling strong. The results are in for PC.IGN's annual best of awards. The awards cover many genre's and a both a winner and a runner up are chosen by the PC.IGN's staff along with the readers. This time, for best expansion pack of 2001, The Sims: Hot Date took out second place behind Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal, as voted by the PC.IGN staff. The Sims: Vacation Rendered Screens

While browsing IGN, I found an article that contains two rendered screenshots of Maxis' upcomming 4th expansion to The Sims. While the shots aren't of in game action, these 3D rendered shots give you some idea of the activities that your Sims will be able to perticipate in. I'm not going to tell you what the two shots are, so you can check them out for yourself over here.
